2012 saw 300 entries with some amazing ideas and impressive thinking. From such a strong field of semi-finalists and finalists, the judges' had a tough decision to reach. Many congratulations to everyone that was shortlisted and a well-deserved congratulations to all our finalists.

The first-ever BIG Awards winner was Snap Fashion - the visual search engine for fashion. This innovative app won over judges with its potential to wow the fashion world with clever photo tracking functionality. Snap Fashion won $100,000 cash, a $30,000 marketing package from dnx, $30,000 of media support from Octopus PR and Bird & Bird gave $15,000 in legal expenses.

Digital Shadows came second with a cheque for $25,000 plus 12-month's support from Bird & Bird and mentoring from Cisco. This technology startup helps to mitigate cyber security risks by helping organisations see their protective measures as if they themselves were the attackers.

In third place was Six3, receiving a cheque for $10,000. Its Video Messenger lets people send private video messages using smartphones, tablets, PCs and connected TVs. Six3 also received 12-month's support from law firm Bird & Bird and mentoring from Cisco engineers and managers.
